Current Issue of Racism in the U.S

Group 3 spoke on the topic of racism. We elaborated on the different aspects of racism as a whole. My topic was the current issue of racism. I spoke on the current hate groups that exist in the United States such as the Ku Klux Klan, The Proud Boys, and the Neo Nazis. All these groups were created with the sole purpose to hate on anyone that was not white. These groups are run by both men and women, except the Proud Boys. The Proud Boys are a hate group that not only dislike minorities but homosexuals, and are anti-immigration, anti-Muslimism, and have shown support for rape. This now popular hate group has been deemed a terrorist group in Canada. The KKK, also known as the Ku Klux Klan, is another infamous hate group that have been known to mostly attack African Americans but also attacks Jews, immigrants, and homosexuals like The Proud Boys. This hate group has been around for decades unlike The Proud Boys that have been around for only a handful of years. 

 

Racism in academia, and why the 'little things' matter

 

My group members also discussed the different aspects of racism by discussing how it affects different minorities and how it affects different countries. Such countries include South America, Latin America, etc. Although these countries are filled with people from similar or identical backgrounds, some still are racist towards one another. An example of this is in Dominican Republic, the people in this country have a long history of racism as 90% of people have some sort of African American descent. Another place that has experienced a great deal of racism is Brazil. Brazil has experienced racism since the early 1500s and was the last country to be segregated in the Western Hemisphere. Hispanic people do experience a great deal of racism even in the U.S. I myself am Hispanic and while I have not dealt with racism myself, I have definitely heard stories of other people who have dealt with it.

 

Our group also spoke on the issues of racism in the United States justice system. This topic has been brought up for debate for years but has more recently been a heavy topic of discussion in 2020. The reason racism has been such a debatable and controversial topic recently is because of the crimes committed against black people. Violence towards black people has always been an issue but came to light when the murder of George Floyd occurred. This brought up the subject of police brutality. Police brutality has definitely divided the world has a whole as everyone has different opinions on the subject. Because of the murder of George Floyd, many support groups have come out. An important group is the Black Lives Matter group or better said the Black Lives Matter Movement. This Movement has formed massive groups in protest to the murder of George Floyd and many other individuals that were murdered because of their skin color. These protests were filled with people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds and were even attended by famous celebrities all over the world using their platforms to raise awareness.

Current Issue of Racism in the U.S

  Group 3 presented about racism about the different topics that is brought up and how it effects everyone individually and not only in the United States but also around the world. In my presentation I talked about the current issues of racism in the United States that many people are dealing with this currently. One of the issues that is brought up was some of the statistics that is happening currently. For an example it would be that the leading cause of killing black men would be the police and that black people are 3.5 times likely to be killed by cops. A group was created to show this problem around the world which is called Black Lives Matter which talks about the police brutality that happens and has taken many black lives and police officers are not held accountable. I also brought over the fact that covid-19 has taken more black people in the community compared to the white community they are 3.5 times likely to die from covid-19 and this is because of the health insurance...
