Current Issue of Racism in the U.S
Group 3 presented about racism about the different topics that is brought up and how it effects everyone individually and not only in the United States but also around the world. In my presentation I talked about the current issues of racism in the United States that many people are dealing with this currently. One of the issues that is brought up was some of the statistics that is happening currently. For an example it would be that the leading cause of killing black men would be the police and that black people are 3.5 times likely to be killed by cops. A group was created to show this problem around the world which is called Black Lives Matter which talks about the police brutality that happens and has taken many black lives and police officers are not held accountable.
I also brought over the fact that covid-19 has taken more black people in the community compared to the white community they are 3.5 times likely to die from covid-19 and this is because of the health insurance. They don't have access to health insurance because they make it impossible for them to get it. 20% of black people don't have health insurance compared to 10% to the white community and Asian community. Doctors have also neglected to take care of black people or discriminate them just because they don't want to help them. They've also showed from 2016 that showed that white medical students believed that black people have a higher pain tolerance than white people. One of those examples would be that black people have thicker skin and less nerve endings, or stronger immune system and this study comes from doctors from the 19th century but this was only because they wanted to justify the inhumane way that slaves were treated.
I also talked about Donald Trump of how he also encouraged people to say some hateful stuff to the groups and the people that support him would follow him and not question it. Racism has always existed but ever since Donald Trump became president they became more prevalent and more hateful. Donald would say hateful speech at his rallies and everyone would praise him and not hold him accountable for his action.
My other group members spoke about racism in South America and how they see black people and how they would treat them differently and not treat them the same. They also talked about hate groups that was created to hate on minorities and they still exist till day. One of the groups that exist would be the KKK group and they hate on minorities and think that. White supremacist group that targets on African Americans, Jews, Immigrants, LGBTQ+ community. The KKK group stands for Ku Klux Klan that was founded on the year 1865 after the civil war because racism was banned and they still wanted to hate on the minorities. Another hate group would be the Neo-Nazism that hate on Jews and have admiration for Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.
